Fine Motor Skills

Fine motor skills are the small, refined muscle movements needed to perform delicate tasks. Using his fingers, he can discover physical attributes of objects while refining dexterity. At a young age, children’s finger and hand movements are random, however, over time and with practice, the hand and finger movements become more refined and purposeful. In order to develop these skills, children need lots of experience with different surfaces, textures and tasks. Experts call this skill “visual discrimination” and it takes a long time to fully develop. The EASY GRASP BUTTERFLY was designed to capture baby’s attention and help him practice visual discrimination skills. In the first month of life, babies can differentiate between green and red, the colors of EASY GRASP BUTTERFLY’s crinkly feet, and recognize high-contrast patterns like the stripes on the legs. Even though young babies won’t be able to verbalize new vocabulary, hearing specific words while experiencing sensory stimulation is key to understanding language concepts.
